This is what you should read if you are new to CrossFit and would like to understand more. Enjoy!

Before jumping into what CrossFit is, I would like to congratulate you for taking interest in your personal wellness.

While we believe that CrossFit is an outstanding fitness program that can be utilized by everyone, we acknowledge the fact that everyone may not like CrossFit.I hope this page helps you make an educated decision on how you would like to start your fitness journey (be it CrossFit, spinning, yoga, kick boxing, zumba, Barre or whatever gets you motivated and moving)

CrossFit is briefly defined as “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.” There’s a great article written in the CrossFit Journal that goes into more detail (What Is CrossFit?)

By focusing on functional movements or movements that translate to better body awareness, CrossFit becomes a program that teaches members (also referred to as athletes) how to become stronger and better movers for the rest of their lives. This is the philosophy that we hold ourselves to at CrossFit HCS. The variety of movements and combinations that are pulled from weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning programs are designed to improve strength, speed, endurance, agility, body awareness etc. This program is made to greatly increase your general physical preparedness.

CrossFit at HCS

Classes at CrossFit HCS are 1 hour long (unless otherwise noted). The structure of the class is made so that anyone can show up, learn the movement or the movement progression and hit the workout hard.

The typical class breakdown: warm up, go over the workout of the day (the WOD), be taught the skills, standards and techniques required for the workout, perform the skills in a mini workout where the coach can assess movement patterns and suggest adjustments, scaling option or progressions for the WOD, then hit the WOD. While CrossFit is commonly associated with intensity, it is the final step for our athletes. Before intensity is added, learn to move safely, become consistent, then efficient and finally add the intensity.
